Port-to-Port Breakfast, Lunch,
and Free Airport Tour

Reggie Gray, Houston Intercontinental Chamber of Commerce President, welcomes attendees to the Port-to-Port Networking Luncheon on April 1, 2010.
April 1, 2010
The Port-to-Port Event kicked off at the Houston Airport System Administration Building, where 40 lucky HICC members met for breakfast and a tour of Houston Intercontinental Airport.
They jetted off to the brand new Fresh Cargo Facility, where they learned about the various methods IAH uses to keep our local environment and ecology safe from foreign contaminants, insects, plants, and other pests that try to sneak aboard shipments to our country. The Houston Airport System also gave our members a tour of the International Business area at IAH, and explained retail operations and opportunities within IAH facilities.
"I was especially interested in the way they handle contracts for different vendors inside the airport," stated Ray Bejarano, General Manager of Greenspoint Mall for Triyar Companies.
The luncheon featured key note speakers from the Port of Houston Authority and the Houston Airport System. The event began with some fun Wii Golf and putting games as registrants made their way through the check-in line. As the luncheon began, Pastor Andrew Watkins, HICC Director and Owner of The Watkins Group, gave a wonderful invocation, and John Farrell, Chair of the Golf Tournament Steering Committee announced open registration for the upcoming 22nd Annual Golf Tournament.
Reggie Gray, President of the Chamber, introduced the first speaker, Col. Eric Potts, interim director of aviation at IAH, who gave a very informative presentation on growth at IAH, and the potential for additional development in our area in the coming years. Charlie Jenkins, Vice President of Strategic Planning & Environment at the Port of Houston Authority gave some great information on growth, security, and jobs at the Port of Houston.
Both Col. Potts and Mr. Jenkins opened the floor up for an impromptu Q&A session, to address local concerns and to provide some great historical trivia about the two largest transportation markets in the Houston metro area.

Reggie Gray, Houston Intercontinental Chamber of Commerce President, presents Col. Eric Potts (HAS) and Charlie Jenkins (POHA) with certificates of recognition for sharing their expertise at the HICC Port-to-Port Luncheon.
HAS has agreed to sponsor another morning tour of the airport sometime in the very near future, so if you missed out on it this time, join our mailing list to get updates on the next tour! |
